No Buyer’s Remorse

I managed to bike for a grand total of 25 miles this week. At current estimates that saved me about $5 in gas. That’s really good, I think.

I’m quite surprised by two things really. One is how close everything is to my apartment here in Louisville. Church is just a little less than 3 1/2 miles. The café I frequent most often is only 2 1/2 miles. Work is only 4, and I can get there in just about twenty minutes or so. Those are the places I’ve traveled to so far. I haven’t tried it yet, but the grocery store is only 3 miles and Target is only a little more than that. It’s really great to see just how easy it is to get around in this area of Louisville.

The other thing I’m surprised by is just how quickly all of those short trips add up to. I went to church, work, and the café twice and it added up to 25 miles. But I also drove another 40 on other trips. It’s really amazing how quickly all that added up. I don’t even feel like I went anywhere.

I’ve found out too that my conditioning is terrible. It’s really my legs that give out first. I have trouble getting up a couple of hills around the school. And the ride home from work just wiped me out for the entire evening. Now I just need to figure out how to eat better so that I have the energy to add more miles to my week. It’s good so far, though: no buyer’s remorse.
